CLUB FORMATION - NEWSPAPER ARTICLES 2
1967 - 1969This item has three newspaper articles that cover the period prior, and just after the club was opened.
The article titles and a precis of each of the attachments are:
11/5/1967 a) "New 18-Hole Course Planned For Melville" Outlines the early steps in the formation of MGGC. Of curiosity interest, the journalist suggests one of the likely names for the club to be the "Southern Sands". The source of the article is "The West Australian".
22/4/1969 b) "Draddy will be Melville Pro." Described the appointment of Roy Draddy as the inaugural golf club professional at Melville Glades. The source of this article appears to be "The West Australian".
18/5/69 c) "New Course a Winner " Written by professional golfer Graham Marsh, the article is his personal critique of the newly opened course. Interestingly, this is also the year that Marsh became a professional golfer, although the exact date is not known. The source of the article is not clear but the bottom of the page is titled The Independent, Action. The Independent was a Sunday publication that commenced just a few weeks prior to this article so it is likely to be the correct source.
The file size of the attachments for these two pages are 14 and 19MB.
