Historical information

The trophy is for a local inter-school athletics competition. Karragullen Primary School would participate in events like this until its closure in late 1999. Many schools in the hills area and in regional locations that participated in events such as this have since closed.

The E.C. Rushton is for Edgar Cyril Rushton. Then Member of Legislative Assembly for Dale as a member of the Liberal Party. He also served on the Armadale-Kelmscott Shire Council from 1958 to 1965, including his time as shire president in 1965 and 1966. Rushton had a strong belief in local governments and community involvement.

Karragullen Primary School started in 1891 by the Canning Sawmill for the children of its employees. In 1913 the state school was opened at Illawarra Orchard. In 1920 the school was moved to Brookton Highway to be closer to where families were establishing new orchards.

Due to falling student numbers the school was closed at the end of 1999. After the closure children in the area would attend schools in Roleystone.
