Thirteen page stapled commemorative booklet with a marbled-grey card cover on which the title is printed in black in Gothic script, 'Supreme Court of Western Australia / Transcript of Proceedings/ at a Special Sitting of the Full Court on 25th May 1988, on the occasion of the retirement from office of / The Honourable Sir Francis Burt, KCMC, Chief Justice of Western Australia'. A Coat of Arms is present at top under the Supreme Court of WA text. Inside the booklet at the bottom of the final page is the publication reference, 61892/6/88-43-O.
A number of people who were present gave speeches of appreciation for the contributions made by Burt during his long career, and Burt was able to respond. The Special Sitting concluded at 11am.

Historical information

Sir Francis Theodore Page Burt AC QC (1918-2004) was the grandson of The Hon Septimus Burt and great grandson of Sir Archibald Paull Burt. He was born in Perth and after serving in World War II, Sir Francis rose to prominence as a skilled and respected law practitioner. He lectured at the University of Western Australia, mentored young lawyers and founded the Independent Bar Association in Western Australia. Sir Francis was a Judge of the Supreme Court, Chief Justice of Western Australia, Lieutenant Governor, and Governor of Western Australia.
