Historical information

The original novel, 'Homeward Bound' was published in the USA in 1838. It tells of some wealthy British and American people who set sail from London to New York in 1835. Their small ship goes astray which leads to harrowing adventures on the African coast.
The date of this edition has been estimated based on the date of the printed library label affixed to the inside cover.

A Mechanics' Institute Northam library label (printed by Colebatch & Co, Northam) has been affixed to the inside cover, dated 1917, explaining subscription fees and the rules of the library. This has been over-stamped diagonally with the words, "J.F. Solomon & Co., Auctioneer and General Agents".
There is a handwritten name at top of the inside cover: "Albert Auger(?)"
