Harry did shoe repairs at his home at 144 Harold St, Highgate after he came out of the army. He had been a shoe repairer in the army. He was a bootmaker in Bay View Terrace, Claremont for 33yrs, 1949-82. Harry Gitsein and his wife Kath, had 3 bootmakers shops in Claremont. Kath made Harry's aprons from fawn coloured twill fabric. Harry took part in Claremont Museum's 100th birthday celebrations, demonstrating resoling a boot. Part of the celebrations was the opening of replica barber and bootmaker shops inside the museum. Some of the equipment came from Harry's old bootmaker's store. Original shop was on the eastern side of Bay View Terrace. He later moved across the road to larger shop that was later subsumed in Claremont Arcade.
