Oral History - Ben and Diane Tas
2022Ben Tas moved to Dumbleyung with his parents in 1963 where they bought the Dumbleyung Bakery. Working with his Dad was a continuation of a career in baking which he continued with his wife Diane.
For Dunsborough locals, the name Tas is all but synonymous with baking. But the well known and loved Tas’s Bakery, founded in 1998, is only the most recent chapter of a career in breadmaking Ben and Diane have shared across the Southwest for over 50 years. In this interview, the two of them tell that story and what baking has meant to them in their own words, from Ben’s apprenticeship in Perth in the 1950s through to a well-earned retirement in old Dunsborough.
