Very faded b&w photo of teachers and pupils at Newcastle State School in Duke Street. The photograph is mounted on a cream coloured card with a pressed border.
The back drop behind the large group is the south wall of the building.
Two windows, one of which has over it the Australian coat of arms on fabric (canvas?).
Either side of this are 2 blackboards with drawn pictures and the initials of the artists.
Another blackboard is on the left of the group and a water tank is to the right.
Staining on the right of the photo.

Contextual Information

The old Newcastle School, located on Duke Street, was the first purpose built school in the township. It operated as a school from 1887 to 1954. In 1910 the town of Newcastle in Western Australia changed its name to Toodyay.
