PHOTOGRAPH: 'STRANRAER', CORNER ROBERTS AND TOWNSHEND ROADS, SUBIACO

Overview

A black and white photograph featuring a residence called 'Stranraer' at 285 Roberts Road, Subiaco. The property was located on the corner of Roberts and Townshend Roads and is an examle of a detailed Federation Queen Anne Villa.
The house has a corrugated iron roof with two tall chimneys visible. The bull-nosed verandah has turned wooden posts wrapped around two sides of the house.
Its gable has ornate woodwork and plaster decorations. The porch at the entrance to the side verandah has turned wooden posts and fretwork. A crenelated turret projects through the verandah over the front door. The verandah to the right has been enclosed with asbestos and timber louvres. Two tall palms grow on either side of the garden path.
The front fence features carved timber posts and cyclone fencing. 'Stranraer' was used as a private nursing home until 1989.
