The machine is a linotype machine, which is a heavy mechanical typesetting machine that casts an entire line of metal type as a single solid piece, called a slug. It is a machine used in the newspaper printing industry.

In the bottom right hand corner in red printed lettering "02 12 03". The is a date stamp which cameras did in the 1980s and 1990s.
