Overview

A circular medal attached to a red white and blue ribbon via two rings. The ribbon is attached to a metal bar which has two hands embracing and underneath is an embossed floral pattern. The front of the medal has the left profile of a Queen (Queen Victoria). On the reverse side of the medal is a crown and below the crown are two shields, the one on the left represents the Union Jack flag, and the other shield has four quadrants which have different pictures, the top left is a sheep, the next is a ship, the botoom left has a spade and pick, the right a sheaf of wheat. Across both shields is a ribbon scroll.

Inscriptions and markings

On the front of the medal around the edge is embossed "VICTORIA DEL. GRA. REG.ET IMP." Underneath the profile is "SPINK & SON".

On the back of the medal around the edge is embossed "CONFEDERATION OF THE AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH" . Embossed in the ribbon scroll on the left is "UNION AND " and on the right is "EMPIRE". In the ribbon scroll below the shields is embossed "1901". Below the left shield is embossed "WEBB & SONS".

Around the rim of the medal is etched "F.B. HANDRY".
