CLAREMONT ARCADE RENOVATIONS 1980
c. 1980 - 1989Three colour copies. (a) The entrance to Claremont Arcade from St Quentin Avenue during renovations in the 1980's. There is a vertical sign [LAUNDROBAR] on the outer wall. Above the entrance at street level is a sign [AHERNS]. There is a staircase on the right to the upper level where signs on the first shop are [DISCURIO] and [DISCURIO/ Records/ &/ Cassettes]. A man is leaning over the balustrade and another is on a ladder on the right. (b) Looking west down St Quentin Avenue. Framing surrounds the arcade building. Several cars and a trailer with building materials are parked in the street. (c ) Dark cladding has been added to the framework shown in (b). There are three framed display windows and on the eastern end there is a sign [freedom]. There are ladders on the western part of the complex.
Completed November 1982 by Bay View Investments Pty Ltd. Shops in Arcade 1982: Gerlinde, Pease and Deran, Capelli Hair, Claremont Cards and Toys, Hardman, Sussan.
