PHOTOGRAPH: HENRY, ANNIE AND EVA EDMEADES

Overview

Group is arranged outdoors in front of a flower bush growing over a fence, with Annie seated in front. She is wearing a lace blouse and velvet jacket, a choker around her neck and a white cap upon her head. Henry is wearing a suit, waistcoat, shirt and bow-tie, with a square velvet hat upon his head. Eva wears a loose frock with a dropped waist, a little button-hole on the upper left side, and pearls.

Handwritten on back: 'Henry aged 91 yrs 11 mths, Eva aged 59, Annie aged 93'.

Historical information

Notes from the family at time of donation: Annie died, aged 99 years 4 months, in 1935. Henry is 98 and still going strong in 1936'.

Henry was born in England, he came to Australia as a boy of 17. He visited Tasmania then travelled to New Zealand. He has lived actually in every state in Australia and in Western Australia. Has been a resident for the past 40 years or so ' (The Daily News, Thursday November 12, 1936) and reaches his 100th birthday in 1937. Eva reaches her 104th in 1973.

Henry, Annie and Eva represent three Subiaco Centenarians. Henry, 22/11/1837 - 7/4/1938 : 100 years and 4 months.

Annie, 7/4/1836 - 3/7/1935 : 99 years, 3 months.

Eva, 25/10/1869 - 25/8/1974 : 104 years, 10 months.

Eva was Henry's daughter by a previous marriage - she founded the Y.W.C.A. In Perth.
