Overview

Coffee grinder, metal with a white enamel inner to funnel.
Drawer with brass knob and brass plate on front.
Handle has wooden knob.
The base is square with two lugs to fix to a flat surface.
Brass plaque "A Kendrick and Sons" across the top of the plaque, "patent coffee mill" written across the bottom, with the royal coat of arms centred.
No 2 impressed on upper surface of base.

Historical information

Coffee grinder - circa late 19th century - manufactured by A Kenrick & Sons. Donated by Anita Thurman.
The ground coffee was collected in the pull out drawer with the brass knob. The grind size was adjusted by turning the regulator screw after removing the drawer and using a screw driver from the underside.

Contextual Information

The Archibald Kenrick & Sons company was established in 1791 in West Bromwich, Staffordshire, UK as a quality iron foundry. It is a family firm with six generations of Kenrick descendants serving as directors, the most recent being Martin John Kenrick (born 1940). The company still operates today.
