PHOTOGRAPH: TRAM DRIVER AND CONDUCTOR, SUBIACO 1956
1956Black and white photograph of 'SUBIACO W.A. Motorman J. Travers and his conductor before returning to Hay St.' The motorman is the tram driver. Trees in background indicate that it may have been taken at the Rokeby Road-Thomas Street terminus of the route. Some trams continued to the Nedlands Baths via Hampden Road and Broadway. The men are wearing the Tramways uniform including caps. The conductor has his leather bag which carried tickets and fare money.
The photograph was taken by Dr. Reece Jennings probably when on holiday in Perth in 1956. He gave this copy to Nick Aitken of Perth to be donated to the Subiaco Museum. Dr Aitken worked as a fireman for the South Australian Railways as a young man. He later became the Mayor of West Torrens, Adelaide.
