A sepia photograph of a large group of men standing outside a hotel. On the left hand side are three women in the background, all dressed in long dresses, at least one appears to be dressed in working clothes. The men are dressed in suits and mostly wearing hats. The rood is tin, and there are two small gables.

Historical information

This hotel burnt down in 1897 and was replaced by a two level building in the same place.

Inscriptions and markings

Between the two gables, is a sign which reads "?nning Hotel ? C. Chipper ? Fermented and Spiritous Liquors".

On the left hand side of the photograph handwritten in blue ink is "1891".

Statement of significance

This photograph is the only surviving photograph of the Katanning Hotel showing H.C. Chipper as the Liscensee.
