Queen Victoria Golden Jubilee Mug
c. 1887A white mug with a gold rim and featuring transferware celebrating the 1887 Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria. Opposite the handle there is a brown , white and blue image of Queen Victoria on a brown background. Below this image is a white band with wording. The edges of this image have decorative patterning pointing towards the handle. It is to be noted that the solid brown background with the square edge is rather unusual for memorabilia of this event.
Queen Victoria, born Alexandrina Victoria on 24 May 1819, was Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from 20 June 1837 until her death in 22 January 1901. Her reign which lasted over 63 years was longer than any of her predecessors and became known as the Victorian era. It was a period of industrial, political, scientific, and military change within Europe and was a time of expansion of the British Empire. In 1876 the British Parliament voted to grant her the additional title of Empress of India.
