Historical information

The "3rd Battalion Wellington Rifle Volunteers" was a New Zealand military unit that was absorbed into the new Territorial Force in 1910, with its territory later becoming part of the 9th Regiment (Wellington East Coast) (later Hawke's Bay). This unit was a component of the larger Wellington Rifle Volunteers, a volunteer force that was reorganized under compulsory military training in the early 20th century.

The formation of the 3rd Battalion, Wellington East Coast Rifle Volunteers, occurred in July 1898.
