Elizabeth and Elijah Quartermaine

The woman is Elizabeth Quartermaine and this is the only known photograph of her. The man is Elijah Quartermaine, they were the first European settles in Katanning, they settled the property of 'Yowangup' which is 5kms north west of Katanning. In 2001 the property was still owned by the Quartermaine family. The attached document are some handwritten notes on Elijah Quartermaine and his family.

Details
The photograph is highly significant to the Katanning community, as Elijah and Elizabeth Quartermaine nee Dickenson were the first European settlers of Katanning. Elizabeth Quartermaine died in 1873.
A small paragraph in the Inquirer and Commercial News dated Wed 3 Dec 1873 on the death of Mrs Quartermaine, the wife of an old settler.
