Bay View Terrace Shopping Precinct Claremont

Overview

Three photographs of the Bay View Terrace shopping precinct.

17.121a
Upper Bay View Terrace with cars parked in marked bays on either side of the road. Two cars travelling south are waiting for a pedestrian to cross: one is pulling out from bay on the west side. Shops on the east side include Olson's newsagency, Freecorns self service store, one with a hoarding on the parapet for Tom Pell's real estate business and a number with blinds to shield shop windows from the afternoon sun. There is the rear of a large frame on the roof of a building in the vicinity of Drabbles to display signage to traffic on Stirling Highway. On the west side are poles bearing power lines and street lighting. Shops include Sussans, R. Saunders, and Jacobson's pharmacy with [CHEMIST] on the balcony..

Closer view of upper Bay View Terrace showing slab footpath and partial sign for Lockes on the right.

17.121a
South west side of the Bay View Terrace showing a line of empty shops with cantilever verandahs and ornate parapets, prior to demolition. On the side of the first is a sign for the Pump House wine shop: others, including Highway Dry Cleaners, bear notices re closing. A man is crossing the entrance to St Quentin Avenue and in the background is the Commonwealth Bank and a CHEMIST sign on the living accommodation above Miss Jacobson's pharmacy.
