Geraldton Regional Library

The Geraldton Library opened in July 1968 next to the Council buildings in Cathedral Avenue. It became a Regional Library in 1979, providing advice and support to 26 Libraries throughout the Mid-West Region. In 2020 the Regional Library model became redundant and support for library's in Western Australia defaulted to the State Library of WA. Geraldton Regional Library, however, remains the administrative center for the Midwest Libraries Consortium.

Due to the expansion of its services, collection and clientele base, by 2008 the Library had outgrown its premises and was looking for a new space which could accommodate the needs of expanding services. In 2010, the Library moved to its new premises at 37 Marine Terrace, the site of a former supermarket.

The majority of the Local History Collection resides within the Library complex with the Community and Civic Archives being stored externally. The main focus of the Geraldton Regional Library Local History Collection is to collect materials in a variety of formats which hold historical significance in regard to the Mid West Region.
