About organisation
The West Australian Goldfields region is as rich in history as it is in mineral wealth. The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder recognises and supports the retention and promotion of the region's significant history through its ongoing investment in the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Local History Archives and the Goldfields War Museum.
The Local History Archives employs a full time archives officer who oversees the City's vast collection of civic treasures and memorabilia, collected over the years by the regions various local government bodies. The archives office also holds significant records on paper, microfilm and microfiche that are available for members of the public to use should they wish to learn about our vibrant past.
The Goldfields War Museum was founded in 1979 in an effort to retain and promote the extensive military history of the Goldfields region. The museum's collection contains historically valuable items from the Boer War, First World War, Second World War and Vietnam, right through to modern conflicts and peacekeeping operations. A recent, extensive redevelopment of the museum's display facilities has allowed for important aspects of local wartime history to be conveyed in greater depth than ever before.
