Summer Uniform (Tunic, Shirt, Tie & Hat), Officer Pattern, H.A. Hammond
Khaki coloured, cotton summer service dress tunic, each shoulder features a shoulder strap with three oxidised copper rank pips (denoting captain rank), the straps are fastened near the collar with a small oxidised copper button.
The double pointed tunic lapels feature oxidised copper AMF 'rising sun' collar badges, below the lapels is a set of pleated breast pockets with triple pointed flaps fastened by small oxidised copper buttons on the middle point. A further down is another set of expanding map pockets with rectangular flaps. A set of four oxidised copper buttons sewn to the right hand side hold the tunic closed, assisted by a fabric belt with oxidised copper buckle. Each sleeve of the tunic terminates in a reinforced cuff with pointed detail. The ensemble includes a khaki cotton collared shirt and a brown wool tie.
This uniform was worn by Herbert Hammond while he was serving as a captain in charge of ‘C’ Company of the 28th Battalion during the Second World War.
