HAT PIN: WOVEN BRASS WIRE HEAD, NEWMAN FAMILY

Overview

Hat pin, brass. Large conical head has surface of brass wire-like material made from length of very thin brass wound round an inner core of fibrous material. Hat pins from the home of the Misses Newman (two sisters), on the corner of Kershaw and Hamersley Roads, Subiaco. Hat pins were used to secure hats on hair and prevent the hats blowing off.
