Artist James Giddy helps Gosnells Primary School students Bwardoh Moo, Jensikan Selvarajah and Myles Davidson with the artwork on the Hicks Street bus stop.

A mural decorated with native flora and fauna that surrounds the school environment was painted on a bus stop along Hicks Street in Gosnells last week.

More than 20 students from Gosnells Primary School teamed up with the City of Gosnells and artist James Giddy to bring the artwork to fruition.

Teacher Louise Eddington said the project helped the students to be more aware of the variety of plants and animals in the local area.

“The students have been really excited about the bus shelter program,” she said.

City of Gosnells mayor Glenn Dewhurst said the project was a terrific opportunity for the students to be creative while learning more about the environmental significance of Mary Carroll Park.

“Working with an artist like James Giddy will give the students a new perspective of their local environment,” he said.

“His work really celebrates nature and the students should discover more about the amazing fauna at Mary Carroll Park.”

The students will also paint stencilled images of a swamp hen’s footprints on the pavement surrounding the bus stop as part of the project.
