BOTTLE, MEDICINE - CALIFORNIA FIG SYRUP
An oblong clear glass bottle. On front is moulded text and on sides. Front has a rectangle shaped flat indentation. Top slopes up to cylindrical neck with rim around the opening.
The California Fig Co. was founded by William Pinninger and Richard E. Queen in in 1878 in Reno, Nevada, United States. Their product was a laxative made with fig syrup and other plant products.
The company had financial trouble in the 1880s and in 1885. The last bout of financial trouble resulted in the company becoming successful again before its purchase by Sterling Remedy Co. in 1912. This is why the [STERLING PRODUCTS INC] appears on the base of the bottle.
The bottle would date to at least after the acquisition of California Fig Syrup Co. by Sterling Remedy Co. in 1912.
The bottle would have been disposed of after use into the rubbish tip. The rubbish tip would have been created to deal with waste that could not be reused or used to make new items.
