World War 2, Western Australia, Rottnest Island, Coast Artillery Instrumentation, Ballistic Correction Calculator, No 1 Mk 1
Ballistic Correction Calculator No 1 Mk 1 – Firing data contained in Firing Tables were based on a set of standard conditions. At the time of target engagement, any variation from these standard conditions affected the accuracy of predicted weapons fire. The Ballistic Correction Calculator determined the corrections to range and bearing necessitated by variations in meteorological conditions. Ballistic air temperature, wind speed and direction, barometric pressure charge temperature and projectile type data was entered on the relevant input scales. The read out showed the corrections to be set on the fire direction table to account for the variations from standard conditions.
