Overview

Fire Direction Table, Mk 3B - The Fire Direction Table received electrically the target range and bearing from either the Coordinnate Convertor or the Depression Position Finders at the Battery Observation Post. Its purpose was to generate firing data, having regard for the projectile time of flight, into future position firing data based on course and speed information being applied to current traget position. The range and bearing of this future position was transmitted to the magslip receiver data on the guns.

Unlike a modern electronic calculator, this instrument was a mechanical caluculator based on input wheels and precise gear trains. To maintain this flow of data input , six operators were required to man the table.
