PHOTOGRAPH: MARY NEWMAN IN THE GARDEN

c. 1920
Overview

Sepia photograph
Front: The photograph shows Mary Newman, dressed in white, sitting in a deckchair in the garden at the side of the Newman house in Hamersley Road. She sits facing the side of the house and there is a dense hedge behind her. In the background there is a trellis with plants growing against it, and beyond that, the house next door. There is clear detail of the ornate timber pattern under the gable of the front room, with matching design for the awning over the window and the verandah posts.
NOTE: It is interesting to see the development of the garden from the time this photograph was taken to P85_595 which shows a profusion of flowers, shrubs and trees.
Reverse: Handwritten note: 'Hamersley Road'
