A woman in a long-sleeved dark outfit with white jabot is seated on a hemispherical well cover. She is holding a dark sunshade and a small dog is standing up to her lap.

A pipe leading from the well is in the foreground and another passes through an open picket fence, beyond which are trees, the river and the distant river bank.

Possibly Edith Josephine Sharkey.
Early residences in Claremont required their own water supply.
Neighbours sometimes shared a well with pump or windmill.
