CANT HOOK
1880 - 1930A shallow hook forged from squared iron bar. Hook point at one end and an eye at the opposite end with a metal oval link through it to attach a chain.
This tool was used by Henry and Lucy Buckingham on their orchard "Bangup" Roleystone from c1897-1950s. The hook is attached to a pole that is pressed against one side of the log while the hook is embedded into the other. This provides enough grip to move or turn logs. This tool may have been used by Henry when he was clearing his land in 1897. An extract from his diary dated November 1st 1897 says "wring barking up at Bangup". This tool also may have been used by Henry during his carpentry, wheelwright or wagon making work in the 1890s. Henry's brothers Thomas Junior and Alexander owned a local timber mill in the late 1800s located on the Canning River near Kelmscott.
