Historical information

This meat cleaver was used by Henry and Lucy Buckingham at Bangup orchard. Henry worked as a carpenter, wheelwright and wagon maker before starting the orchard in 1897. He married Lucy Fancote in 1905 and they moved to the orchard where Henry built a family home. This cleaver would have been used to butcher meat on the orchard for family consumption. Henry is known to have bred pigs on the property in the early 1900s.
