c. 1910The original black and white image shows an example of a Whittakers' settler's cottage. Typewritten on the back is: 'This house with a verandah added still exists. Built about 1910 Mr. and Mrs. A. Thorn lived in it for over 30 years. Mr. Thorn was a tram driver on the Subiaco - Nedlands run.' Hand written on the back is: 'Smyth Road shanty.' Wise Postal Directories indicate the address for a Ambrose Thorn was 6 Smyth Street.
The cottage now has a verandah.
