Certificate awarded as a token of gratitude for and appreciation of the help given to the Sailors, Soldiers and Airmen of the British Commonwealth of Nations, which enabled them to escape from or evade capture by the enemy. Facsimile signature of HR Alexander, Field Marshall, Supreme Allied Commander, Mediterranean Theatre. Certificate is on cream paper with black italic print below a gold printed version of the Royal Arms

These certificates were issued by a variety of British Supreme Commanders to recognise the service of civilians in occupied countries who had assisted servicemen to escape of evade capture. The names of the recipient were entered on the front. On the reverse was a translation in the national language of the recipient (name not usually entered). Dated 1939-1945 and frequently numbered.
