c. 1926Service station with verandah. A man standing either side of wide doorway to workshop and a light truck with [Central Dairy] on side board, parked in front. Single, hand-operated petrol pump on kerbside. On pediment and fascia [F.W. PEAD & Co./AUTOMOBILE & GENERAL ENGINEERS/MOTOR SERVICE STATION/PROPRIETOR. PHONE.F.856. 731] Signwriting advertises [PETROL/OIL/TYRES/REPAIRS] and hours as 8am to 10pm weekdays, 9am to 9pm Sundays.
Operated F.W. Pead & Co. Ltd Motor Works at 122 & 123 Claremont Avenue (now Stirling Highway) near the corner of Bay View Terrace in the 1920s. Petrol for the single, hand-operated pump in front of the business was delivered by the Shell Company in 44 gallon drums on a horse drawn lorry.
