Historical information

Sci-Tech is an interactive science museum in West Perth. Founded in 1988 the museum is a collection of exhibitions, displays and events designed to educate and inform visitors about science. Schools arrange trips to Sci-Tech as a day outing.

The children from Karragullen Primary School being recorded on videotape is an example of the change of technology. At the time of recording videotape was the standard media format for recording and viewing media such as school trips or viewing a film. The addition of the special events in the film would have required specialised machines and equipment with limited computing software to add the effects to the film. Modern technology allow for effects and editing to be quickly done all on one device.

The exhibition the school children attended was called Special Effects Exhibition.

By the early to mid-2000s the format would be surpassed by the rise of DVDs and then later digital media available through the internet.

Karragullen Primary School started in 1891 by the Canning Sawmill for the children of its employees. In 1913 the state school was opened at Illawarra Orchard. In 1920 the school was moved to Brookton Highway to be closer to where families were establishing new orchards.

Due to falling student numbers the school was closed at the end of 1999. After the closure children in the area would attend schools in Roleystone.
