Wheat Bag Spikes
c. 1800 - 1980Three long thin metal spikes which are pointed at one end and have a 3cm loop at the other end. The spikes are tied together with a piece of wire.
Prior to the use of silos, farmers would store wheat in hesian bags which would be sealed by folding the top edge of the bag over and then one of the metal spikes would be threaded through the folded over edge.
