Polished whale's tooth (Sperm) carved into the shape of a penguin & mounted onto a resin base.

Historical information

This tooth was carved into the shape of a penguin and set on to a resin block by Alexander Summers who was an Engineer for CBWC. He worked on this when working for the Salverson Line of South Georgia in the Antarctic.

This item has social and historical significance. It was made by an artist who worked at the Cheynes Beach Whaling Company when it was operational. Objects such as these were carved by former employees and locals who acquired whalebone, ivory and baleen from the whaling station.
