BOTTLE, AMETHYST GLASS - DYASONS

Overview

A purple cylindrical glass jar. The body tapers into a reduced circumference neck. The opening has a finish that allows for a lid to be attached.

The glass has internal cracks and bubbles throughout. No glass has chipped away.

Raised text along the base.

Historical information

Part of the large donation of objects by Ian Boersma. This item was found with others in the rubbish holes of the Richon Vineyards before the land was used for housing.

The name on the bottle [Dyason's] is the name of Joshua Dyason the founder of Dyason and Sons. Initially founded in roughly 1870 in Melbourne, Victoria, his company started manufacturing lime coridal before expanding into other drinks and preserves. His success was partially boosted by the temperanace movement of the time that encouraged the consumption of non-alcoholic beverages.
