Contextual information

The .303 rifle is a Magazine Lee-Enfield Mark I (MLE Mk I), commonly referred to as a “Long Lee-Enfield.” It was manufactured by the Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA Co) in 1902 under the reign of Edward VII (E R stands for Edwardus Rex). The “LE 1” indicates it is a Lee-Enfield Mark I rifle, which was the standard British service rifle before the introduction of the Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) in 1904

One of the earliest firearms in the collection. Issued for military use and repurposed for civilian use.
