Honour Board - State Savings Bank (World War 1)
Large jarrah Honour Roll with carved details and bronze tablets recording State Savings Bank staff from Western Australia who enlisted to serve during World War 1 with one recorded death.
The State Savings Bank of Western Australia was initially established as the Post Office Savings Bank in 1863. Over the years, it expanded its services and changed names a few times. In its first year, the bank opened 224 accounts and 10 branches. In 1906, it became the Government Savings Bank. The School Penny Savings Banks (a subsidiary) opened in 1907. The bank attempted to merge with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia in 1912, but the plans were rejected. in 1926, it was renamed the State Savings Bank of Western Australia. In 1931, it was amalgamated with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.
