a) Square, rounded corners, original colour image of Claremont Jetty crowded with students and some adults/teachers from Claremont Practising School. Children and adults are dressed in summer clothing. Written on back of photo, some in green ink, and some in black biro [SCHOOL PICNIC / 1973 / 'PRAC']. b) Square, rounded corners, original colour image of a ferry on the river at Freshwater Bay. Ferry has a curved stern and aft, a white hull, a pale blue mid-section and a white top section. Windows all around top section. Children can be seen in the two doorways on one side. Written on back of photo, some in green ink, and some in black biro [SCHOOL PICNIC / 1973 / 'PRAC'].

Historical information

Opened in grounds of Teachers Training College, on wedge of land between Bay & Princess Roads, Claremont. It was established as an alternative to Claremont Primary in Bay View Tce and a place trainee teachers could easily access for demonstrations and practise teaching. [See also Rural School.] The school has been known over the years by a number of names and is generaly referred to as "Prac".
