Historical information

This plaque was located in the gymnasium section of the Police and Citizens Youth Centre (PCYC). It was installed on 4 December 1982 to acknowledge the work done by J.B. Crooks who was a founding member of the local Police and Citizens Youth Centre. The site was used for many years by the PCYC to run a variety of sporting programs for local children until 2003 when it relocated the majority of its programs to the Armadale Arena, though they maintained the lease on the Champion Drive site. In 2007 the City of Armadale chose to not renew the PCYC's lease, instead they turned the building into a much needed Indigenous Resource Centre which would go onto become known as the Champion Centre.
The plaque was removed in 2018 as part of the major renovations of the Champion Centre. The gymnasium section of the centre was transformed into a general use/performance space predominantly used for cultural performances and meetings.
