Framed Albany and Districts 'Roll of Honor'
c. 1920Framed and glazed, rectangular 'Roll of Honor' to the men and women who served in World War One from Albany and districts.
There is a depiction of a memorial comprising two fluted columns topped with scrolls between a sturdy horizontal base and top. This is all printed in blue ink on a cream background.
At the top in the middle is a Rising Sun surrounded by a laurel wreath, below which are the words 'Roll of Honor' written on a scroll. To the outside of that are two of the places where the Australians served - France and Gallipoli.
A ribbon or scroll is wound around each of the fluted columns. On the left are the names Pozieres, Flers, Bullecourt and Messines, and on the right, Passchendaele, Ypres, Mont St Quentin and Villers-Bretonneux.
At the base of the columns are the dates 1914 and 1919. Below that are two more countries - Palestine and Egypt. Between them is the Australian Coat of Arms.
At the top of the central area are the words 'Albany and Districts' and 'Lest we Forget'. Directly below that is the list of names (surname and initials) of those from Albany who served. Although it appears to be listed in alphabetical order, the names under each letter are not in order. There is an asterisk next to the names of those who made the supreme sacrifice.
Those who received special military medals such as the Military Medal (M.M.) or Distinguished Conduct Medal (D.C.M.) have that noted in parentheses. Women are identified by their role - Nurse or Sister.
