Contextual Information

First King’s PM at Osborne (Swanbourne) Rifle Range. The shooters are at a temporary long range gallery constructed by the Army for the King’s PM in 1913 since the range only went back to 600 yards at that time. The 1000 yard mound was on the hill behind the canteen and it was from here that the winner was chaired. When the long range gallery was dismantled, the mound on the hill became the 700 yard mound. The next two King’s only went back to 700yards. The ‘current’ (ie pre 2016) long range gallery was constructed in the 1920’s. The two short range galleries became C and D groups. The rest of the short range gallery was built during WW1.
