ROLL OF HONOUR: SUBIACO RESIDENTS - WORLD WAR ONE

Overview

Rectangular poster, portrait orientation on buff/cream-toned sheet (now yellowed with age). At top, a ribbon banner scroll reading “ROLL OF HONOR” in capital letters, flanked by the dates “1914” (left) and “1919” (right). Beneath is a central emblem of a wreath or laurel crown with the word 'SUBIACO' below, and to the right a sketch of a soldier's head and shoulders. The soldier is wearing a slouch hat.

On the left side is a hand-coloured illustration rendered in a lightly coloured (watercolour-style) palette, predominantly soft browns, greens, and blues. At the top behind a stone monument or memorial, are the flags of the United Kingdom, Australia, France and Belgium. The monument is inscribed with a list of battle or campaign names: 'GALLIPOLI, POZIERES, MOQUET FARM, ARMENTIÈRES, BULLECOURT, LAGNICOURT, PASCHENDALE, VILLIERS-BRETONNEUX, MESSINES, AMIENS'. Below two uniformed soldiers stand guard, holding rifles vertically. To the right side of the illustration are six vertical columns of 1031 names of servicemen and nurses from the Subiaco area who served in World War One. An asterick beside a name indicates 'Killed in Action'. In the bottom right corner a rectangular section has been cut out and replaced, presumably to add additional names.

Names on the roll are listed on the attached PDF.
