Historical information

The CBH Wheat Silo on the corner of Robinson and Elgee Roads, Bellevue was built in 1954 by Italian labourers who came from Victoria. The silo was officially opened in 1955. The silo was demolished in mid-2016, apart from a remnant wall that remained to be incorporated into a new building at a later date. The remnant was demolished in late 2019/early 2020, prior to construction of the new Bellevue Railcar Manufacturing and Assembly Facility. These images were taken in April 2016 prior to the initial demolition and document the state of the building at that time.

Contextual Information

The silo was a singular example of this design for a grain storage facility in Western Australia. It was purpose-built for the Australian Wheat Board at a time when rapid increase of wheat grown in Western Australia demanded bulk storage facilities.
