Joined as Private 17/8/1914 Headquarters 2 Brigade, embarked from Melbourne onboard His Majesty’s Australian Transport “Orvieto” 21/10/1914. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant 2/6/1917 and promoted to Lieutenant 31/12/1917. Awarded Military Cross for work near Hamel 8-10/8/1918. Returned to Australia 6/9/1919
