Overview

A black and white photograph of a two-storey brick building which is built along two perpendicular streets. Along the entire second storey is a continuous wooden balcony with wooden balustrades.
The two buildings next to this building also have wooden balconies on the second floors of the respective buildings.
There are two cars parked on the side street and four vehicles parked on the left side and two vehicles parked on the right side of the main street.
On the roof of the building in the foreground is a polygonal tower on the corner of the building which intersects both streets.
There are power lines and poles on the left hand side of the main street.

Historical information

The building in the foreground is the 'King George Hostel' although originally it was called 'St Georges Hostel' is a significant building as it was built by the Alex Thomson for Melville Piesse in 1913.
It is located on the corner of Albion Street (side street) and Austral Terrace (main street).

Inscriptions and markings

On the corner of the building in the foreground above the entry door is a sign which reads "COMMERCIAL BANK OF AUSTRALIA LIMITED", and to the left of the entry door on the window is a larger sign which reads "THE COMMERCIAL BANK OF AUSTRALIA LIMITED".

This building is important due to its association with the Piesse family.
