c. 1935The original black and white photograph shows Mrs Thomas sitting with her hands folded in her lap against a dark background. She wears a dark suit with a belted jacket and the Red Cross badge pinned on the left side of the jacket, a shirt and tie, soft, wide-brimmed hat and heavy leather gauntlets. Handwritten on the back are the words: "To Nanny with VAD love."
This detachment of the VAD was formed in 1933-34 by Mrs E.M. Thomas, OBE
