Milford Ware Bowl with Hand Painted Roses
c. 1910Round footed bowl decorated with gold trim around the irregular top edge of bowl. The outside of bowl is decoratively impressed and features varied tones of olive green, gold outlines and transfer ware. There are four clusters of two pink and two white roses positioned evenly around the outside of the bowl. Inside the bowl is cream-coloured and decorated with four white roses with pink centres and olive green leaves evenly placed around inside of bowl. On the inside base of the bowl there are two white roses overlayed with two pink roses.
Milford Ware was a range of ceramics made by Ford & Sons, Staffordshire , England. Ford and Sons used a number of trade names with the word ford in them (Crownford, Crownford Ware, Milford Ware, Oxford Ware, Sandford Ware) in the 1930's.They also identified the factory town of manufacture on the item with the towns initial,e.g B for Burslem, H for Hanley.
